1. Green energy projects in Azerbaijan
- Decree No. 2620 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 3, 2021 “On measures related to the creation of a “green energy” zone in the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan”
- On January 9, 2020, Implementation Agreements were signed between the Ministry of Energy and ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Masdar of the United Arab Emirates on the implementation of pilot projects in renewable energy .
- On December 30, 2020, the Ministry of Energy and Azerenergy OJSC signed an "Investment Agreement", an "Energy Purchase and Sale Agreement", and a "Transmission Network Connection Agreement" on the wind power plant project with ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia .
- In October 2023, the opening ceremony of the 230-megawatt Garadagh Solar Power Plant, built by Masdar, was held in Azerbaijan .
- On December 15, 2022, a Framework Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Energy and the Australian company Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) on joint cooperation in studying and developing the potential of renewable energy projects and "green hydrogen" in Azerbaijan .
- The target has been set to increase the share of renewable energy in electricity generation to 30 percent by 2030 .
- On December 17, 2022, the "Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the Field of Development and Transmission of Green Energy between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary" was signed in Bucharest .
- The pilot project "Knowledge Exchange and Technical Assistance Support for the Development of Floating Solar Panel Systems" implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank includes the installation of a 100 kW photovoltaic system in Lake Boyukshor, as well as the formation of business models to promote the participation of the private sector in the installation of solar installations, and strengthening national capacity through training. In the future, studies are being conducted within the framework of the relevant project for the implementation of large-scale projects on water basins .
- On February 22, 2021, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and BP signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on assessing the potential and conditions required for large-scale decarbonized and integrated energy and transport systems, including renewable energy projects in the regions and cities of Azerbaijan .
- On June 3, 2021, an Implementation Agreement was signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and BP on cooperation in the assessment and implementation of the project to construct a 240 MW solar power plant in the Jabrayil region .
- In accordance with the implementation of the sub-item "Expanding the possibilities of using bioenergy and geothermal energy" under the action direction 5.2.3. "Increasing the use of renewable energy sources" of the Action Plan of the "Socio-economic development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2022-2026", approved by the Order No. 3378 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 22, 2022, Working Groups consisting of representatives of relevant institutions have been established for both directions .
- On December 22, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on technical support for the development of the power sector of the Republic of Azerbaijan .
- On February 3, 2023, within the framework of the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 1st Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council in Baku, the Ministry of Energy and the Saudi Arabian company ACWA Power signed an “Implementation Agreement on the Implementation of a Wind Project of Up to 1.5 GW Offshore”, an “Implementation Agreement on the Establishment of a 1 GW Onshore Wind Farm”, and a “Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Energy Storage Systems in the Republic of Azerbaijan ” .
- On May 31, 2023, within the framework of the "Baku Energy Week", a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of energy transition was signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the "Maire Tecnimont" company .
- On June 1, 2023, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Energy and the Chinese company "China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment" on the implementation of 2 GW of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan .
- According to the Detailed Action Plan for 2023-2024 of the "State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027", it is envisaged to create a "Green Energy Zone", prepare a Concept and Action Plan. Agreements have been signed with "Nobel Energy Management", "TotalEnergies" and "AZ Czech Engineering" companies regarding the implementation of renewable energy projects in Nakhchivan for green energy projects with a total capacity of more than 1000 MW.

4. Protection of the Caspian Sea ecosystem

5. Measures taken to protect the ecosystem
- It is being carried out in the Sabayil, Surakhani, Sabunchu, Khazar and Garadagh districts of Baku, as well as in the territories of Shirvan city, Salyan, Neftchala, Hajigabul, Imishli, and Siyazan districts. In 2006-2022, 2819 hectares of SOCAR's 4040 hectares of land contaminated with oil and oil products were recultivated and restored .
- Ecological restoration of Lake Boyukshor .
- Cleaning of areas polluted with household waste in Baku and surrounding areas by “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC .
- Within the framework of the "Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Ecological Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006-2010", industrial enterprises on an area of 1,650 ha were relocated to revive the Black City located in the center of Baku Bay, and the " White City " project was implemented by cleaning the area of waste.
